The 5 am Club

After being inspired by Robin Sharma and Michael Lombardi’s book The 5 AM Club: How To Get More Done While The World Is Sleeping I’ve spent the last 3 months setting my wake-up call 5 minutes a week earlier.

I haven’t made 5 am quite yet – I’m still going to bed too late – but I’ve shaved an hour off my daily start-time and am in the saddle by 6.15.

Results?

More productive – I have another 60 minutes to read, write and create each day
More healthy – My gym visits don’t seem to be eating into my workday anymore
More power – By the time 9am comes around, I’m already invigorated and completely switched on

All this means I’m achieving more and ticking off goals and milestones easily and more quickly.

I’d love you to have all that for yourself, but here are some cautionary notes:

  1. Don’t flush your extra time away on social media. It’ll crush your spirit for the rest of the day and anyway, what’s the point?
  2. Don’t try and get up an hour early in one go. It’ll feel like jet-lag. 5 minutes a week is fine – ten if you can cope.
  3. Make a list of goals the night before. If getting focused in the morning is ever an issue for you, it’ll be even more so the earlier you wake.
  4. Write down daily what extra you’ve achieved with your new regime. It’s important that something more has happened.
  5. Don’t steal the time from your sleep. Go to bed earlier to keep your body and mind at their peak.

Try it and let me know how it works for you.

It could be the greatest productivity hack of the decade.
